About this Site

The Half-Assed Hobbyist started out as a personal blog chronicling the various hobbies I've accumulated over the years. Sewing, Gardening, Cooking, Knitting, Photography, Biking, Reading, Drawing, Writing. These are just some of the hobbies I've pursued in my life.

The main aim of my blog now is to let people see that you don’t have to be an expert to try something new. A lot of the time we limit ourselves to what we know we’re good at. Playing the Life Game this way conserves our self esteem and makes us even better at the stuff we know we’re good at. It takes an extra push to try something new, especially if it’s something that you don’t think you’ll be good at. Spoiler Alert: If you’ve never tried something before, you're not going to be amazing at it. It's such a misconception that people can naturally be a good cook or an amazing potter or a kick ass accountant with no experience. Everyone needs to start somewhere. Plus! Half the fun of trying something new is knowing that you’re only going to improve your mad skillz.

Hopefully I can inspire some people to reach outside their comfort zone and try on a hobby or two. And if not, then at least it was an adventure on the way!

About Me

A/S/L, as we do in my hometown of the Internet circa the 2000s, 30-something year old lady from in Edmonton, Alberta.

I have had many jobs (mostly food related), studied many things (Degree in Nutrition and Food Science plus some CompSci courses), and in general, have had too many hobbies to even try to perfect one.

Also. This is my face. On a good day.
